Route Navigation

Hi, I travel around the country with work. If I’m away for a few days I take my bike so I can get out and do some road work. I’d like to plan a route and then get this onto my Android phone so that I can get assistance to navigate it (as often I don’t know the area). So, the ultimate goal is to:
1. Use some online mapping tool (such as gmap-pedometer) to plan my route, save as a file to my Android phone
2. Use some ‘Google Navigation like’ Android App that will allow me to navigate the saved route, connect an ear-piece, pop the phone into my shirt pouch and then get riding, turning when the voice navigation tells me I have a turn to make.
3. At the same time record my track with times, speed, etc.

Most of this I can do.
1. I plan the routes on gmap pedometer and export as GPX file. I then use GPS Visulizer to convert to a kmz file, which I drag and drop into Google Earth. From this I create a KML file. I then copy the files onto my Android phone (directly from my NAS using ES File Explorer which is great BTW).
2. Now I am stuck, I can show the route in Google Maps, but I need to be viewing the phone in order to determine if my current position is on the route. This wastes battery on long rides and on sunny days (yeah right!!) the screen is not easy to read.
3. I use My Tracks to record the ride, seems to work well, though Strava and Velox are also both ok. Ok, with these apps the data values are not always 100% (though they are usually close enough to my Cateye Strada for me not to worry too much about them).

So the missing (Killer App) is step 2: the voice navigation of a pre-prepared route. I have come across a few references to apps such as OSMAND, Orux and MMTracks (of which OSMAND seems to be the closest thing to what I need). Does anyone know of other options or have any comments on the above?

If you can afford a Garmin 800, just get one of those. They really are unbelievably good and do everything you want, plus a LOT more.
