sea water?

Managed to ride both bikes through the sea today, as we misjudged the high tide and got cut off in Bosham (west sussex) while having lunch . Mrs diy was on my bike and I was on hers with no.2 son on a tagalong. The water was past the bb, I'm now thinking BB and horstlink bearings might need some tlc or will one soaking be fine?
Anyone with experience of riding a FSR through sea water?

I'd just let it dry out - can't be worse than 1000 dunkings in muddy gloopy water.I don't do smileys.

wash, clean, regrease bearing areas if it was me (and I do have an FSR if it matters)0

Salt water is bloody evil. It loves to eat aluminium and magnesium forks. Keep an eye on it!0

thanks - strip and clean x 2. then0

chain off and soak or just replace."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

if you`ve a fresh water stream or lake near you do the same thing you did in fresh water as in sea water then at least you know the fresh will have washed away the salt.My 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930

Salt and aluminium are not a good mix especially if you chuck some steel into the mix. Oxidisation of the aluminium can be very rapid. So strip it, clean it and regrease pronto.0

As above, strip, clean regrease.....
Despite others misgivings this is where WD40 is great as it disperses water very effectivly, as long as you regrease/oil with something that lubricates afterwards!

yep did a paraffin bath followed by motor oil, then whizzed through the chain cleaner and wiped clean. Seems fine. Chain is only 300 miles old. The BB seems ok, since its fairly well sealed and I do tend to pack things in grease.
Put everything back with a little more grease than usual will redo it in a month.
Really was stupid in hind sight, I should have waded through carrying the bikes and left the wife and kids to drown0
