Chain Suck - chainrings?

Hi all,

Bit of an odd one but I've got a Cannondale Flash Carbon that came with an FSA crankset and chainrings. It's always been really prone to chain suck, and I've replaced basically the entire drivetrain (chainrings, chain and cassette). Even when everything was new I seemed to have to be pretty careful to avoid it happening.

So, I've picked up a bike for the winter (Cannondale Trail SL2) that has a Shimano Alivio Crankset and chainrings. Lots cheaper than the FSA on the Flash, but I rode the new bke today and the chainrings just seemed miles better, not a hint of the chain misbehaving at all and shifting seemed smoother.

Has anyone else had any experience with FSA chainrings causing any problems?

Thanks.

  • Not the chainrings then! Had Race Face chainrings on for the Kielder 100 and ripped a hole in my chainstay on a climb in the granny ring (not during or shortly after shifting). Going to have to get the frame repaired and then my LBS are going to have a proper test and see if they can narrow down a cause. Very frustrating!
