the usual problem is that water will seep in from the top, so unless you are wearing bib tights that you can overlap the top of the shoe covers it is just a matter of time before water gets in

the castelli diluvio ones are pretty good, in winter the extra insulation is welcome too, but water will still creep in at the top

btw my shoes are 46 s-works, so not bulky, the largest size diluvio just about fits, if your size is larger then i don't think these would be usable

some people report using drysuit ankle seals with their overshoes, i haven't tried this yet, but if the coming winter is as bad as summer has been, i'll be getting some!

Neoprene is waterproof but as there's a huge hole at the top and for te cleats - you'll never get 100% waterproof. Plus you'll sweat inside them anyway.

I don't think spending money guarantees waterproofedness - have you got full mudguards with flaps ? They cut down on spray a lot.

If you want dry feet, you have 2 options:

    1. 2 pairs of thin socks, with a carrier bag on your foot between them.
    2. Use Sealskins

If you want warm feet, then use neoprene overshoes
