I've done a few bits of bike maintenance, but I'm not looking to build up a bare frame ... I'm doing ok, but have hit a roadblock with the headset.

The frame is from a 2010 Ridgeback Flight which is listed as being fitted with an FSA intellaset as standard. Beyond this piece of information I'm at a loss as to what headset I need to buy in order to move forward?

The obvious solution is to approach my local bike shop, and I still may do this, but I am really keen to complete the build myself if I can.

Can anyone shed any light on what information I need to gather in order to identify a suitable headset? Am I also going to need special tools to fit this type of headset?

The closest match I have found so far is this from Planet X: http://bit.ly/oV7Wyw

Which lists a "45mm OD headtube" but I presume I need to know the inside diameter too?

I also checked out the Park Tools guide to Headsets here: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-hel ... -standards but I'm no nearer to identifying which type of headset the Ridgeback specified intellaset is ...

Any help appreciated?

Thanks

Jon

Anyone?

see the links in the tech links sticky above for the FSA headset book.

    there are 2 intellaset possible.

Headtube ID of 34mm as you have found or 40mm (OD for this can be 45mm) intellaset Pro No14

pics of what you have could help.

PS the topic in commuting is now removed.

Thanks for the info. I can't get the PDF to load from the FSA website, I drew a total blank at their website for anything useful in fact.

I will take a photo and measure the frame, see if that helps.

In terms of what tools/expertise is required for this type of headset, any pointers?

    Thanks

So I managed to snap some pics at the weekend, and I'm pretty sure the Intellaset No. 28 is required based on the measurements and the FSA doc you sent me.The FSA document states '41.5-42.mm OD' which based on my somewhat rough measurements seems to match?
