Anyone doing the Ride Around London sportive? I have been mulling it over. There's a 60 mile route and a 115 miler. It's on Sun 25th Sept...

On a single speed?! I was thinking about the 115 miler but I guess I could go for the 60...!

    Yeah.

Just don't expect me to take a turn when it's shallow downhill.

Some guys on here will vouch for my (relative) speed on that thing.

Feel free to turn me down!

Well we did the ride. Was good weather. Enjoyed it.

    Two conclusions.

#1 - Headhunter is an awful lot faster than I am!

#'2 - Gears, can, occasionally, be useful!

Cheers mate - hopefully didn't hold you up too much.
  • It was a good day for it that's for sure (apart from the awful signs!).

I did the full route from Herne Hill including riding to the start from Waltham Abbey - 140 miles for the day.

I am rather sore at the moment! :D

Well done to all who took part,
    Still breathing.....

Yeah it was good! You did well on the old SS.... You need to bring your geared bike to London and start coming on regular rides! The ride home was fairly epic, headwind all the way through the sketchy parts of NE London but I got there in the end. Anyway nice day for it, I have completely refreshed my cyclist's tan, there are very definite marks on my wrists with my hands very white and my arms brown...

Can't believe we missed the chance to meet the legendary Hambones! You shoulda said you were doing it! 140 miles - good distance! I think I totaled about 80 miles on the day with the ride home etc. The "short" ride was only 53 miles on my Garmin rather than the 60 miles they said. Pleasant route though, some nice pretty lanes and villages... Shame abouty the road surfaces in places though, felt I needed an MTB or cross bike!
