Is it wrong to be a member of more than one cycling club?

Firstly, Hello, been lurking for a while now.

Secondly, I've bought my first road bike and have only been out on one ride due to lack of friends who cycle.

I'd like to ride a lot more and have noticed a couple of clubs in my area (north london) have club runs on saturday and sunday, and i was just wondering if it was not the done thing to be in two clubs. is it deemed rude or disrespectful?

anyway, just wondered if someone could clarify this for me...

Thanks

    Really?

I do 95% of my cycling alone - I'd never get out otherwise!

PS, I am not aware of any "etiquette" but I can't imagine it'd be a problem, unless you wore the kit of one club on the ride of the other!
  • You may get some funny looks but I'm not going to throw away perfectly good kit just because I've moved hundreds of miles away from the club I was in.

Maybe if they're two local clubs I could see people having an issue (especially if they're rivals (although how you could be rivals over a social ride is a mystery)).

Theres nothing to stop you being a 2nd claim member to another club, but I don't think you'd be too popular being a 1st member of two different clubs.

It's only an issue if you are going to race, and then you should have your clubs set up as first/second claim etc

+1 (although it's 100% for me). A misanthrope in lycra!

It doesn't matter unless you are racing as people have said. We have a couple of guys who regularly come on our club run wearing the kit of another local club and who are perfectly accepted (although they do get a bit of good natured ribbing about being too tight to buy our club kit).

I'm based in the Midlands and a member of Lichfield CCC
Anyone welcome on club rides member or not and members of other clubs frequently turn up in their kit and ride with us. its never seen as a problem. Only requirement is to be of an appropriate standard. Beginners OK for the Saturday cafe but would struggle on some other rides etc.
By the same token I'll go on other clubs rides and when on holiday will normally find a local club and ride with them-always been welcome

As long as you are member of both clubs(pay the subs etc) it's never a problem, as others have said only racing effects your club status so you'd have to choose one club as your 1st and the other as your second.

Long as you pay subs and do your 'bit' (helping with events etc), no matter really.
