Can anyone advise on the below picures. I have only ridden the bike once and I am not sure that the headset is installed correctly or not.

I have a ragley piglet and its a hope headset. Before I take it back to the shop, i would like to know if its not right so I dont waste my time travelling / look like a nob.

1) Gap between the cup and the frame

2) The bit above the cup (rubber washer thing)

I apologise for the descriptions, I am sure I will be advised of the correct part names..

I have to confess, i'm no whiz when it comes to bikes. What does this mean and has it caused the gap? Sorry for being a re-tard..

you have put too many shims between the TOP CAP and the TAPERED SLEEVE. so they are making the gap. see the fitting info.

and the cup has not been fitted correctly.

  • You can see in this image that the cup isn't pressed right...

There's more gap on one side than the other (unless that's the light). Should be pressed in with a headset press, looks like this one's been done either very badly or done banging in with a rubber mallet...

yes, its all very bad. I have emailed the bike shop with a complaint, will have to see what they say.

I am really miffed by the shoddy workmanship. I wont name the company till I get the / goodwill gesture sorted out - i think a few might be surprised by which company it is!!!!!!!!!

Why not take it apart and do it yourself. It's a piece of p**s, and you'll know it's done right.
