Weird Feet.

Looking for some advice if possible please.

I have been suffering with quite severe foot pain since changing to clipless pedals and shoes. At first I thought it was just related to the set up of my cleats but I am reasonably happy now and that it is related to 2 things.

1 I have flat feet

2 The shoes are a little wide fitting for me but this is normal as even in normal shoes I have trouble getting a wide enough fitting.

After all that rambling on my question is can anyone recommend a sports/cycling shoe insole that I can fit that will offer increased arch support as I believe this is the biggest part of the problem.

Fingers crossed I'm not the only weirdo with flat feet  and you can offer some help!!! :D

Sure you're not just doing your shoes up too tight which is easy to do with road shoes?

No, I don't think so, I have played about with how tight I wear them and it makes no difference

Thanks for trying to help though :D

    You could try:

    eSoles eFit Supportive Footbeds

    Specialized High Performance BG Footbeds

    Sole Custom Footbed Insoles

  • +1 on trying some footbeds.

Have a look at Steve Hogg's blog and start from the beginning. That guy knows a thing or two about fitting people to bikes.

Without saying when the pain occurs (straight away, after xxx miles, etc., etc.) hard to know if it is size, nerve bashing, blood restriction, arch support.

The Giro (comes with the Factor shoes) footbed is good for me and can be bought seperately for about £40. That has 3 levels of arch support and you just velcro on the one that suits best.

Specialised ones are good but I found the arch support way too far forward so had to tape a 42 footbed into a 46 shoe for them to work.

I tried heat moldable footbeds and gave up on them. They don't tend to set hard so as soon as you put the power down they deform. The footbed needs to have some backing so that it's supported against the sole of the shoe itself.

Just because you have "flat feet (a low arch" doesn't mane you need more support. It's the other way round actually - a high but unsupported arch (like I had) benefits from additional suport. But a standard (least high support) Specialzed footbed may help as they also have the metatarsal "button". £25 fom a spesh store, the + versions (as opposed to ++ and +++)

But as stated above, without knowing where the pain is, any suggestions are likely to be the wildest of guesses.
