    Round rubbery ones.
(Various people will be around shortly with random contradictory recommendations).

Another vote for Bontrager Mud-X. Been using them all summer too. Fantastic in the mud, but also good in the dry and quiet on the road too (although I only really cross over roads!).
I had recently swapped back my (new) Continental Speed Kings for the last 3 weeks, purely to save wearing out the Mud-X tyres during the summer and I was surprised on the difference and how unstable I felt a few times in mud ruts and on dry flint tracks. I'm now back on the Mud-X tyres again.

Riding this Boardman Team FS 2010. Also trying my first blog.

+1 for Bonty Mud X, especially for general riding

If you re a proper XC race Whippet then the Maxxis Wet Screams are supposed to be good, but I ve no personal experience

I swap to a super tacky Maxxis Minion on the front for wet rides. Gives me a lot more confidence

Specialized storm control. Superb at keeping clear in the gloopiest mud and dirt cheap too.

I was just going to have a look at the forum and see if there was anything better than the Bonragers Mud X Jone as I need new tyres for my bike. I have been using these tyres for a long while as I really enjoy riding in the rain and mud. I can say that I have been very pleased with these tyres and will buy a new pair for my new bike. They shed the mud well. I will be buying the wider 2.2 width though.

Don't go for the nobby nics whatever you do, complete rubbish in the wet and cornering is awful!

  • No one mentioned Panaracer Trailraker? (sorry if I misread).

    -Bontrager Mud X
    -Maxxis Medusa
    Giant XTC SE 2006
