Lee quarry is what it says, but a lot of the rougher sections can be missed out and if you do the red routes its good flowing stuff, all the jumps can be rolled or missed out.
Don't let it put you off as Grant says, take your time have a mess on the pump track and skills section and you will love it.0 -

If you're not sure what I'm on about is it really a good idea to then go on and call me a nobhead? I give you a  Sir..
Lest we detract from the thread I hope this individual hasn't been too badly hurt and makes a full and quick recovery (should have said this in my original post)Cube Hanzz Pro FRSquarepants wrote:It's not that I'm over over biked, my bike is under personed...0 -
I'd rather Squarepants attempt at a joke than Grants attempt at punctuation...
Everywhere you ride is dangerous. Keep within your limits, don't expect not to crash at some point, enjoy the trails, and Lee quarry is just another jaunt.0 -

Still go but if you want a nicer ride go halfway around Lee Quarry and head to Cragg Quarry which is a much better ride IMO.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
Hope the rider is ok. But on a sidenote, where does the trail split from lee to venture over to cragg?

From the skill sections, tabletops on your left head up the fire road round the hill (were you go up to red/black) follow this and you come to a sandy/slab hill, up this as you level out keep a look out on the left for 2 stones usually with a puddle, turn left through these and the link road is unmissable.
Follow this up (quite a slog) and you come to a fork section go right up onto the old roman road, follow this down (right) past a right hand turn (don't take this as we did), keep following the road and you come to the quarry on your left, can't miss it you will see tracks. then waz round cragg for a hour or two.0 -
You can also download a map of the quarries from here or you can get a paper copy from Ride On in Rawtenstall or Poppies Cafe opposite Futures Park (if they're open).
The link officially starts half way down the red route at Windy Gap although I think the route 1mancity2 describes is better. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
dont be put off leequarry by crash stories. it's an awesome place to ride and hone your skills.
yeah it is rocky in places and every thing can be rolled or chicken lined round.. that what you cant ride simply walk there is no shame in walking..
the jumps can be rolled or just miss them out.. i had a big off there in march on those tables , jumping in wind not a clever idea,, jumping in a gale retarded idea, i ended up with a broken clavicle dislocated shoulder and a broken thumb...
i did not let this put me off i could not wait to be back on my bike and in the quarry...
you could simply just follow the bridleway that goes through the quarry,www.bearbackbiking.com

went on sat ,started at cragg then went down that fun dh bit with the rocks to launch off until we got to lee. had a good time and yes it is dangerous first time out and i think it will take another ride or two before im up to speed. but as mentioned you can make it as hard or easy as you like. both cragg and lee quarry are amazing and a big hats off too the riders who must have put the effort in to make such a place possible.Viner Salviati
