Jumping text box

When I'm typing messages on here and the message exceeds the original space of the text box (ie when the scroll bar appears on the right hand side of the text box) the box always jumps back up to the original coverage of the text box so I can't see what I'm typing.
As I press the keys, it quickly jumps back down to where the cursor is but then flashes straight back up to the start of the message.
It makes it really difficult to type.
Is there anything I can do other than write shorter messages?

Happens on all three of the computers I use at home and work. One is Windows 7, one is Vista 64 and the other is XP.
