Do bike shops want to sell bikes?

  • Due to the national chains, changing buying habits, the internet etc, we havent had a LBS for about 10years. There is one about 20 miles away and it is pretty hopeless(he aims more at the mass market £200 stuff). So if you want anything decent we have to travel about 100 miles south,or use the web. I maybe unique in that i waould support a local shop suppling quality components etc, because a few of my biking friends would go to any length to save £1 on bike parts. So as such 1 of them thinks I was mad paying £60 for a xt cassette a few weeks agowhen it could be bought on the web for£45ish at the time. But i needed it then, and the guy inthe shopwas helpful with local routes that we would have never discovered without his (free) advise. He and his business turned potentially a disasterous day into an excellent one.
Where we live due to remoteness modernbuying habits is killing the comunities, extra transport costs, and extra times for delivery due to that are meaning most people looking for most items either do a round trip of over 200miles(with high fuel costs!!) or go on the web. The carriers do a roaring trade!!!!(and there is only 2 of them that deliver here!)

  • Take a camera crew, pretend you are filming a reality series, that's the only thing that gets the herberts of today's yoof interested. They think reality tv is a career choice.
