The wife has pulled out of the 100 mile route so I am now doing it on Saturday.
IS anyone else doing this?
Does anyone know if the route is clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Seems like that's a no, then.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on, though, as I may put this one in my calendar for next year
You've no won the Big Cup since 1902!

Ditto. Please let us know how you get on, Drummybuich. I'd like to have done it, but I didn't know about it and it's too short notice now. It's on my radar for next year though. I've a regular sportive the second week in September, so it'd be good to do a long ride two or three weeks before it.
  • Anyone know where the results for this are?
  • Hi guys,

    Really enjoyed it today.

Lovely scenery as you would expect in that part of the world and got a chance to see more of it than you do on the Etape Caledonia due to the small groups.

The 100 route (actually 97.54miles on my garmin) was in many ways similar to the Etape with only a couple of notable climbs. In particular the hill coming out of Pitlochry on the A924 got the heart going. The initial ramp on that climb is simialr to the turn at Logierait, but the climb keeps on going for a couple of miles or so.
I found the drag over to Aberfeldy past a wee loch the toughest part of the ride. It was pretty bleak and exposed up there and we had a headwind too, but the reward was the long descent into Aberfeldy.
Other than that the route was relatively flat and fast. The roads were quiet, except for the first and last few miles when we were on the A94.
The feed stations were excellent, friendly and fully of home bakes, sandwiches, fruit and water.
The signage did the job, but I'd prefer to have seen a few more signs.
The organistaion at the start and finish was first rate and friendly. (Showers and more toilets would be nice)

My ride - We started in groups of 10 every couple of minutes, but as expected a bigger group formed pretty quickly. On my ride I was with about 15 or so until the split at Dunkeld after 30 miles, but only myself and 3 others turned left for the 100. We stayed together until Pitlochry and then the aformentioned climb split us up. I pulled away and then had a lonely ride on my own to Blairgowrie where I was caught by some fast guys from Perth Cycles and Stirling Bike club(?.) I got a tow home with these guys to finish the 97.54miles in 5hrs 04mins moving time. I forgot to get my offical time and certificate at the end though, which will be 10 mins or so slower.

I would definately go back again next year and think the organisers did a great job on their first attempt.
  • Spot on, Drummybuich, I only did the 50 but really enjoyed it too. I have posted a review of it here:

+1 there were photographers out too - anyone know where photos might be?
  • I agree with the comments thus far- I have sent an e-mail to the organisers as I thought the helpers were exceptionally friendly and I have never seen such choice of food at the food stops!

The 100 mile course was a fair test and shows about 1500metres ascent on my garmin which when added to the wind made for an interesting mix of fast/slow bits.

The signage will need improving and I certainly missed one and ended up doing some extra distance.

    Overall a good event.
  • Got an email yesterday from the organiser - results should be on the web site today and he will be sending an e mail with details of photos.
  • Any word on the results being out yet?
  • Still haven't heard anything....???

    here is one:-
David Moss; Dumfries CC; over 55 : 100 miles in 6 hrs 13 mins (delayed by the rolls and home baking at Pitlochry and on my old bike, new one just arrived  , I think it will be a lot faster)

I expect other results will soon appear on the web site.

    great event.
