well boxers aren't as aerodynamic as a jock strap.....

On a more serious note its a preference thing, but 99% of pros will commando it. Nothing worse then a vpl !

In padded shorts? Commando. They're designed to gently caress your undercarriage in a way the seams of boxers will not.

Cycle shorts are designed to be worn next to the skin. Boxers, or any underwear chafes.
  • Even in the harshest winter weather it has to be commando...

On a ride, I might go commando. Commuting to work? Whatever I've got on.

That always wonders me, as well as people who would even sell used cycling shorts. I would never consider sending my shorts which have touched the mother region for many a KM on to someone else, let alone even consider buying them.

Had worn boxers and have never had a problem with chafing (maybe I don't cycle far enough?!). But I tried commando yesterday for the first time and it did feel much more comfy. Kind of liberating in fact!

Absolutely! Why would you wear anything under your lycra?

Its like wearing underwear under your swimming cossie, you know not to do that so why don't people know not to wear anything under Lycra?

    Always amazes me!

Until I saw this thread I never even contemplated wearing anything under my bibs! I might give it a try, and also pour half a cup of sand in there to boot. See how much of a man I am!

You wouldn't use a second hand pair of shorts as someone elses privates might have been touching them. So I gather you choice of women is limited to virgins then?
  • I did try some padded underwear once from Nike....useless!

    As MrChuck says

Commando, otherwise there's no point to cycling shorts

The explanation: the chamois pad is designed to remove moisture from your ars* as you ride, and provide a padded interface with the saddle, with no seams to chafe your tender parts. Wearig any form of underwear will prevent the chamois from working, and any seam will probably rub and make you sore.

That might be minimal for a 30 minute spirint around the block, but go out for a fiull day's ride, and it will be another story.

So commando under bib shorts is the only way.

    So one second.

What happens in winter when you wear longs?

Do you go, unpadded longs under padded bibs, or padded longs under unpadded bibs?

I'm confused what happens in winter.
