Stage 3 Vuelta *Spoiler*
54 km to go, the breakaway with more than 6 minutes, and Rabobank and Liquigas who have done the work give up the chase. No sprint today?
Chavanel, Pydgorny, Lastras and Irizar in the break, all 4 could do something on that last hill
Dry empty landcapes but for a change no big main roads but fairly narrow windy ones

Wiggo weren't kidding about riding towards the front, was he?0

Typical Vuelta stage, dry, hot and dusty - love it0

Cav dropped.
Edit: 10,000 posts :shock:0 -

Kittel dropped. Another 3rd cat to come, and if it's the same as this one it'll be a very small group at the finish.0

Are Rabo going for LLS or (hero) Freire?
LLS apparently is from the area and says the last descent is very tricky and dangerous - will be interesting.0 -
Crash. Trofimov and Le Mevel both go down. Both look alright.0

Trofimov was doing a Schleck.
Cav's laughing group is big, considering it formed on a 3rd cat.

Got it up now (boss is on paternity).
Doesn't look like the peloton is really smashing it at all.
No sight of rabo.0 -

Lastras @ 14"
Chavanel @ 15"
Irizar @ 49"
Pydgornyy @ 1'05"
...but Chava just took a bonus sprint.0 -

(not for red, for the stage. :P)
Chavanel must be favourite for both.0 -
"Trofimov was doing a Schleck. "
Great quote. I can see that becoming a regular saying in group rides and club runs.
IThe heat in the last few days here on the Costa Blanca is baking hot. Sit in a sauna and get someone to put a hot hair dryer in your face for a comparable feeling of riding a bike in the afternoon. It sucks the moisture out of your mouth. I've lived here for 6 years and will rarely ride in the afternoon in August. Out by 8.00am and back in the pool by 11.0 -
Devolder... hah... ouch.0
-
That's a striking image of where Devolder's career is going now - standing still and absolutely grinding it up that climb like a sportive rider out of his depth.
Just a week ago he said in an interview he had big ambitions for the Vuelta and had prepared himself intensively0 -
 That was quite tough for a 3rd Cat climb!0
-
Lastras alone in the descent, but no idea what his advantage on the other 3 is... come on helicopter stop filiming the rear of the peloton0
-
Harmon reckons 15 seconds......graphics just said 26 seconds0
-
LLS rides away from the peloton for no real reason - he'll be pissed off Rabobank couldn't close the gap today - he clearly had big plans finishing in his home region0
-
Lastras......good ride that-plenty of messing around by the rest of the breakaway though, which really helped him.0
-
Well deserved Lastras, good win0
-
Roche takes the bunch kick.....about 30-40 riders in that group.....that last climb blew it apart!0

Some GC boys will have lost time.

He only won (twice) because of Boonen.0
