Bike purchase - advise please

Hi guys, I am considering purchasing a road bike as I currently have a Hybrid for commuting but would like something for the weekend. I have a work collegue who is offering to sell the following but would be interested in what somebody with experience of road bikes has to say:
The bike is a Scott Speedster which is 3 years old. Components have been changed so that it has Shimano 105 Group set (standard chain ring), 105 pedals and Fulcrum 7 wheel set and a Fizik pave saddle. It has a decent wireless computer too.
In short, Its been upgraded with the components to make it a half decent entry level bike and it has a red finish (red tyres and bar tape!). The paintwork has a few chips on it so is not pristine.
He wants to sell for £350 - bought it for c.£650 and spent over £300-400 in upgrades - Supposedly a decent bike, however I am none the wiser.
Therefore any comments on price and upgrades and overall is it worth it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nulli

If it's in good condition and fits properly, that sounds like a good buy. See whether he'll let you take it for a ride first; that's the best way to make sure it's the right size and shape. If it fits, and matches your riding style, I'd go for it. You'd probably be paying £800-900+ for a comparable spec new.
That's assuming that it's a full 105 groupset -- if he's fitted a 105 drivetrain but kept Sora or 2300 shifters and brakes, it becomes less good. Still reasonably for 350, but not so good that I'd buy it without looking at alternatives.0 -
Ok thanks for the advice. I will get the opportunity to try it out for size. Its a 60cm frame and I am 6` 5" so I presume that should be ok. I cant really afford anything else as I was planning on waiting until april and getting a road bike via the cycle to work scheme but really wanted something to tie me over until then. I dont have any experience with types of gears/groupsets etc.

The comparably specced scott today would be about 1300 ish. If it fits and is in good condition then bite his arm off.0
