To my shame ,I live within 5 miles of Afan but have never seen the trails.
My son is 10 years old and wants to go there. Are any of the trails suitable for him,he has just started riding but has a good level of fitness. If none of the trails are really suitable he can always ride the railtrack.

The Wall is relatively straightforward, nothing too technical or steep, as long as he is reasonably competent should be fine.
Whites is a bit more technical, and the descent is very rocky.
If you start with the Wall, it's easy enough to take the fireroads back down if it gets too much.

A bit of a drive, but Brechfa has green and blue trails which are supposed to be good fun.

brechfa green will be your best bet as a starter, went today with my boys 11 and 9 and both loved it.
whites/wall would be too hard and scary for my 9 yr old
    now sharing my plods on
