Did my longest ride so far last weekend, 48 miles from Glasgow to the trossachs and back. Was really pleased, only problem was bad quad cramps for last 5 miles. Anyone with any tips to prevent it?[/u]

    Drink, drink, drink.

Cramps a partly down to lack of muscle fitness and naturally disappear as you get fitter, but even in a fit cyclist can be caused by dehydration.

Also, not only drink, drink, drink - but use something like High5 Zero drink - will provide all the salts that water alone doesnt replace, leading to cramp.
