Shimano 105 5600/5700 compatibility?

I'm buying parts for a cheap build and I currently have 105 5600 sti's (double). I need to buy a double, compact chainset and a front mech, and I wondered if the 5600 STIs are compatible with the 5700 chainset and front 5700 mech?

Also, keeping options open, if the 5700 chainset is compatible with a 5600 front mech?

I'm having trouble finding the FC-5600 in my required spec for the right price - compact double, 170mm cranks and in black, which is why I'm looking at other options (not ruling out Ultegra 6600 if I can find appropriate spec for the right price).

According to Shimano, it seems to be a "no", but wondered if it's true...

Thanks in advance :)

I can't see the issue myself - a front changer should work with any 2 ring chainset, the front changers are the least technical bit of any bike

only potential issue is if the pull ratio (the amount of cable pulled by the shifter) has changed but as long as the shifter model matches the mech model then it'll be fine

it's all 10speed so as long as you use a 10speed chain to match the cassette and the 105 rings then should be happy days

No compatibility issues at all, despite what the Shimano tech docs may say!

I use 5600 shifters with 6700 front mech and 6600 cassette, no issues at all.

Well, I managed to source the parts I wanted in the end, so all 5600 except for brakes and BB cups (105 5700 brakes and ultegra 6700 cups)...

My first "real" road bike. Rides nice on the short test run I did at the weekend. And of course, now the weather has turned!
