    I'm with CJ in thinking that you should have already shelled out a fair bit on frame and wheels before a power meter of any kind is going to be of real benefit, especially at that kind of (could buy a whole new perfectly decent bike) money. But then if you are a serious enough cyclist to be looking to use a power meter, then you are likely to be in that category anyway.

    As regards the issues of pedal/cleat wear affecting accuracy, surely this would affect the accuracy of any power meter,. whether chainset or wheel based. If you are that worried about accuracy, then you should keep your pedals and cleats in tip top condition to avoid wasting any power.

    Not a lot of love for Look and/or KEO cleats in this thread, by the looks of things. Some bad experiences?

    I'm with CJ on this. Deep rimmed wheels do make a noticeable difference at speed. I had a similar experience in RP along roads I've ridden countless times. They are faster. My deep rim wheels (FFWD's carbon body, alu rim) are heavier than my Fulcrum 0's, but the aero benefit outweighs the weight disadvantage. Doesn't current wisdom suggest that aero is more important than weight for many rides - big climbs aside? Whatever, my FFWD's get used all the time now.

    No, Keo pedals (so, I guess, Keo-compatible pedals, too) are not compatible with SPD-SL cleats.

    Ultimately, this is a debate about whether you go faster by upgrading your bike or upgrading yourself! I can see that any change of equipment on a bike (even going from better wheels to worse wheels) can improve your bike handling skills - however, for a mere mortal I think that the best I can hope to achieve by that is a few minutes on a hundred mile ride. But I look at the times on sportives of people who finish over two hours ahead of me and I suspect I have far more potential for improvement physically than anything I can get from my gear. As Lance said....... (no, I can't bring myself to quote the cliche but you know what I mean :lol: )

    Incidentally, point taken about flexiness of wheels. Just shows you have to account for personal specifications; I weigh less than 10 stone. Neutrons are easily as stiff as I need.

    And as for aero - since it isn't (as far as I understand it) the rim that makes aero rims fast but the shorter spoke length, presumably I might do just as well with a lower spoke count rim with bladed spokes - best of both worlds?

    Usually just the softness of the cleats. Otherwise I like them but I only use them on my best bike. Possibly no bad thing to have soft cleats in this circumstance since better to wear the cleats out than the pedals!

    Not sure why no-one appears to have made aftermarket more durable Look compatible cleats though. Or are the ones you can get tougher but no one has realised yet?!!
