Mountains to ride in north wales area

Hi,
I've done a few mountain bike trail centres recently (which were excellent fun). I fancy a go at some proper mountain biking i.e. up a mountain.
I was wondering if anyone knew any good rides taking in a mountain that won't be packed on Sunday.
I live in St Helens (slightly east of Liverpool) and am looking to go somewhere within 1.5 hours drive from home. The peak district and Lancashire areas are options too.
Does anyone have any suggestions and/or links for a ride that i could try. Preferably around a 20 mile size route.

the link gives 20, 30 and 57 km loops (note the hard and easy are the wrong way round!)
the long one has some prpely isolated sections so take care!0 -

Find a mountain. Go up it. It's quite simple, really.
Try to remember though, that a decent sized mountain will have a relentless climb where you gain roughly twice the total altitude as you do at most trail centres. And that height gain will usually be over say, 4-6 KM.0 -
Yeah,
I did a local ride yesterday where the climb was a non stop killer of just over 5km then it leveled out a littleNiner Air 9 Rigid
