Is it too far?

That's a pretty sizeable hill to negotiate. Having said that, I live at the top of a 400 foot hill (in 1.5 miles).
    Bike lover and part-time cyclist.
  • And it's great fun.

    Why?

The Day One is a great fun bike, puts a big grin on my face every time I ride mine. Takes me back to the days of my BMX when I was a nipper, so much so that I find myself using the sloping curbs near people's drives as wee ramps.

I find the geometry a little upright for long distances, though. Seems to put pressure on the small of my back.

Bender - Congratulations, it's a lovely bike. Did you get the new, red one or the yellow one like mine?

The yellow one. My B2W bike finished in January so I can get another bike. I can see that you have the Equilibrium 20. That's almost certainly my No 1 choice!

Yup, I have a pair of Geneses. I love them both, but for different purposes. The Equilibrium is a cracking ride, fast, light (well it would be if I didn't have my heavy commuting wheels on it) and comfortable. All things to all riders.
  • I was pleased with myself for doing 13miles in 45mins. I think I need to step up the pace.
Fat lads take longer to stop.
  • Its not too far at all.
Just accept it will be a little slower and realise you can make that time up by just dumping the bike in the garage when you get home instead of cleaning it 5 times a week when you suffer the salty wet commutes

48x17 on a pompino here, various routes but normally in and around 18miles each way,
Not sure how the climbs compare but certainly none of mine are nowhere near steep:

  • Still loving this. In fact I take it even on the dry days now. Did a 50 mile Sunday Ride with the boys this week as well. Was fairly leisurely with Cafe Stops, started out damp so took it cos it has the 'guards on it. I had to get off and walk over a 10 metre section of a 16% hill but apart from that it was mega fun. Total mileage for last week was 210!

But Croydon sounds like exactly the place where it will be at home - not too many 750ft (Cat 3, did someone once say?) climbs in Croydon.

No noooo! I've done a couple of commutes into that London from Croydon this week (and I may post a ranty thread about that London later if I can be arsed!) - there is certainly no place for single speeds there. They are awful. Dreadful acceleration and no top speed. Gack! Somewhere they have a home but they just get in the way in London.
    Faster than a tent.......
