Please help me identify this part of my 100 mm Reba RLT fork

Hello,

I have honestly looked at the manual that came with the bike, and none of the diagrams exactly match this fork. The information about setup in a general sense is there, but it does not seem very specific to this fork. I have also failed miserably to find a better version online. It seems when I search for Rockshox, Reba and RLT... I find many forks but not this one.

I have to hold my hands up to ignorant stupidity here: When I first got the bike and was exploring the fork setup (the bits I could understand from the manual)... I also gave this a twist and it seems like it very easily pops loose (no thread so far as I could tell). The red part is attached to a fairly thin rod that was thickly covered with oil. Fortunately nothing leaked out.

Please tell me what this red knob / protrusion on the bottom of my forks is for.

They came on a 2011 Specialized in case that matters.

Thank you :)

    It is the rebound adjuster.

Yup, should have a picture of a hare and a tortoise just above it on the fork lower.
It's not threaded, and it pulls out fairly easy. It simply turns an adjuster inside the fork assembly that changes how the oil flows through the damper assembly.

Turn it in the direction of the tortoise until it won't go any more and compress the fork.
You'll notice that the fork is fairly slow to return to the top of it's travel. Turned the other way, towards the hare and it springs up quickly when returning to the top of the travel.
  • Cheers for the answer supersonic. :)

Cheers is not the word for your information boneyz. I am going to try that out tomorrow. I wish manuals were written in such a straightforward way.

If you ever find yourself some 100 miles south in the Bedfordshire area, then there is someone this way (being me) who owes you many beers! :)

No worries Razor :) You want the rebound somewhere in the middle, but it all depends on riding style, rider weight and what sort of riding you do. Best way is trial and error. I'll hold you to those Beers!
