Hi all,

Can someone clarify what would be the minimum and maximum tyre width i could fit on my road bike wheels. The standard wheels are Mavic CXP 22 and the current tyres fitted are Kenda Kontender 700x26c.

So could I, for example, fit 700x23 tyres without any issues?

Cheers

Rob

I have the same rims and have 23s on them.
Where would you be if you fell down a hole?.. Stuck down a hole... in the fog... Stuck down a hole, in the fog, at night... WITH AN OWL!

As a general rule, maximum tyre width = 1.5-2 x inner rim width. For your CXP22 rim this dimension is probably around 16mm and therefore 32mm would be our recommended max. In terms of how narrow - avoid a tyre that is narrower than the external width of the rim so 20mm in the case of most 700c road rims.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • 23 is a common tyre width and Mavic would not have made the CXP22 if 23s did not fit. Most manufacturers will state a min and max tyre width for thier rims, which is maybe findable on the Mavic website or the website of a Mavic distributor.
