I have a 705 edge.

Is it possible for the wife to use the 'bike 2' setting.

Naturally she's keen to know calorie burn etc, and just to make it more difficult rides on 650 wheels.

Can 2 different people be set onto the 1 unit, if she buys the mounts and sensors?.

And if so how?.

Ta muchly

Can't see a problem.... apart from ... I think you can only have one user profile in terms of age/weight/sex etc... but I don't think the 705 does any HR based calorie counting anyway.

    Yeah it does.
But if I can only have 1 user profile, then she can't really use it, as she's a foot smaller hence the smaller wheels too.

If she's just after calorir bue=rn, then a cheapo Polar would fit the bill.

I guess the question is.... what information is she wanting to get out of the device?

TBH, the calorie counting isn't exactly the most accurate on the 705 (in fact, it's wildly inaccurate!) as it only uses 'user profile' and speed (and not HR) to compute.

The Edge 800 was the first nav device to use HR based calorie counting, but even the 800 seems to be more a 'finger in the wind'. Garmin devices lag Polar devices in this area.

Thinking about it... the other data that would be out is the HR Zones.... but that's not exactly a big issue as you can just show HR rather than Zone info.

I don't think there is any way of adjusting the Garmin Calorie counter data to be useful, every time I've looked at it it's said slightly in excess of 1,000 calories for an hour of riding and everything I've read suggests that this should be closer to 600.

It would work as a fine computer for the two of you to share since speed is based on the GPS info and cadence is unaffected by the size of the bike. Calories though, I think are best ignored.
  • Why not separate out the rides once you've loaded them onto the PC?
Many (most? some?) of the PC packages that let you import from the garmin give the option to recalculate calories using their own method rather than garmins.
