weird tinking sound

Hi I have a highly repetitive and highly annoying tinking sound coming from what I believe is the bottom bracket.

It's an old falcon team banana with a biopace chainset, every time the drive side arm reaches about 1 o'clock it 'tinks' could be a 'dink' but definitely an 'ink' sound. The problem is it only happens under pressure which means when I'm off the bike I can't replicate it to find where it's coming from, doesn't matter what gear I'm in the tink tink tink sound is still there and it's driving me nuts.

Any ideas?

    "Dry" bearings. BB or pedals.

    loose chain ring bolts?

Something utterly random like shoe knocking against front mech cable?

As above - agree 100% that those could be a possibilities. Try popping out the chain ring bolts and copperslipping them up, do the pedals as well while you're down there.

Also try random things like copperslipping the seat post and cradle: bizarre things can cause these noises.

    Cable on crank arm?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Would show up on just spinning the cranks which is why I thought shoe knocking cable into frame.

    Good call though!
  • I don't mean to hijack this thread, but anybody got any clues I have a ticking sound coming from my back wheel ish. seems to synchronise with the speed going so guess it is back wheel related. Have had the bike up on a stand a number of times...NO noise of any sort when spinning the wheels when it is up there. Seems to need me sitting on it??? Oh yes still there when freewheeling.
Spokes all about the same tension, disc no buckles, nor does the rim.......
Although it is only a quiet tick it is driving me mad.
    Any bright ideas?

In the last couple of days I had a creaking sort of sound when out of the saddle, when the right crank was at 1 o'clockish. Turned out to be the front wheel skewer that needed tightening. Noise gone now.

    Sod's law

Set aside last night to strip it down and get to the root cause of the problem, got off the train jumped on my bike and no noise at all, it's gone, whatever it was.

No doubt it'll return when I'm miles from anywhere without the correct tools.

The noisy component has clearly fallen off or been stolen!
