I've just signed up for this. Anyone do it last year? Feedback etc.

Thanks.

I did it last year—a *really* well organised event, only let down by the weather.

Upon reflection, the bad weather probably added to rider camaraderie, with a common 'what the feck are we doing out here?' thought pervading.

    Enjoy it!

Oh, and watch the cobbled entrance on the way back into the palace. I got a pinch flat there, almost within sight of the finish.
  • +1 to the above - a very well run event! Route was very scenic and undulating, but luckily (for me as a poor climber) nothing too steep.

The weather was miserable (rain + wind :( ), but that just made the coffee and other snacks at the end taste all the better

Plus if you finish quickly enough you get to see the brompton world championships which are a sight to see!

Briefly considered it but they really are having a laugh charging £35 entry.
  • I did the ride (60 mile), first time I've done it. It was an enjoyable ride, although I disagree with SirUlrich above, some of those hills seemed plenty steep to me
Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.

I did the 60 mile too as I'm still nursing a slightly weak knee. The hills were enough to raise a sweat, but believe me the ones on the 100 miler are a lot worse!

I had a sticky moment when a marshall waved me on at a blind (to me) junction, then changed his mind as I reached the white line (car coming). Talk about an emergency stop - and that was just my heart.

I was running out of steam at the end until a saw a guy's jersey with " Rule 5 Applies" on the back. That helped! :D

Great day out though, all told.
