The less said about the new "Airjack" called the Bonka (no joke) the better.

Even better, £350 for a pair of tights. No mistake. And check out some of their new bootie range. So very S&M, one of them at £117.

Brand new products, I suspect they won't be in for a few weeks yet. The entire Winter range is outrageous.

I have heard people (non cyclists) describe cyclists wearing lycra as perverts. Perhaps S&M style attire is the next logical step?

Oh, and I feel I may have been a bit harsh on you in another thread. I have now read some posts of yours that go against my comments. My apologies sir.[/img]

Jesus. This is the effect that dentists are having on our sport. Its not just the price of headset spacers that's skyrocketing.

Now I'm going to look like a chump in my 851 jacket and winter LL tights.

I worked out what it would cost to ride in Assos raingear.

    Jacket £350
    Overknicks £200
    Mille jersey £100
    Uno Shorts £100
    OVershoes £80
    Socks £12

    So £832

Its no more ridiculous than paying £3,500 for a frame. In fact, I'd wager that there is far more of a difference between Assos and kit a quarter of the price, vs a Pinarello (or equivalent) and a frame a quarter of the price.
  • Does anyone know where I can get an assos carolina bella jersey?

    TIA

Well the joke's on you. They're not socks, they're "a completely new species of foot apparel" - which makes the £35 sound much more reasonable... right?

You need that sort of clothing for riding like this:

It's far far more ridiculous. This is wet weather riding gear. WET weather. £832 for riding in the wet.

How about, well, umm, just getting wet?

Looks like fairly normal commuting for round here :?

Seriously, 10 seconds is about what I'd normally give it for the wet to get in on bad days, wearing my eclectic collection of ebay, aldi and lidl kit - of course I'd pay £832 to extend that to, say, 3 minutes... I don't think.

Err they even say the jacket isn't 100% waterproof in the marketing gumpf - it's utter rip-off shite and IME experience of their shorts stuff half the price is better.

Are you honestly dull enough to think this will protect you from getting wet? More than any other cheaper kit? The jacket, as stated above, isn't waterproof. What's the point in one that lets water in then run down into your expensive S&M knickers?

Why don't they just sell a rain suit?

It is good kit - and lasts well - but £350 for tights ? ROFLOL !

Cycling has really gone up in price since it got trendy- must be all the MAMILS.

Quite Cougie, I've had enough of it to know what to comment on. The older stuff is great but some of the new stuff, just odd.

Take the Ihabu. Not bad, but not really very warm. The Element was better, if rather odd. You can get the Element for £100 at Wiggle now, or the Habu at almost twice as much.

THe new Bonka? Well, it's more acceptable looking (less S&M) than the Airjack. But you can get an Airjack for less than half it's price.

I guess because it lasts well they keep having to come up with the next indispensable item. I'm not paying close on £400 for a rain top that may well stay in (hopefully not falling out) of my back pocket for most of my rides.

I bet the pro issue kit isnt that expensive.

What difference does it make to you if they do? It hasn't made the stuff you buy any more expensive has it?

    Assos != cycling.

Cycling has got no more or less expensive since it got trendy. Maybe there are more people buying at the top end but it hasn't made any difference to the lower/mid range, so who cares?

Are there other £350 rainjackets and tights? I can't remember seeing them from a mainstream brand?

Probably not. My point was there are plenty of good rainjackets and tights from mainstream brands for far less than this so why complain about it?

If you like it, think it's worth it and can afford it- buy the Assos stuff.
If you don't like it, don't think it's worth it or can't afford it- buy something from any one of the dozens of alternatives. They haven't disappeared.

It's just an expression though, to convey an emotion at the price. And behind it, perhaps, an expression of a message to say to Assos, come on now guys, that's taking the piss. The luftshutz appears be heavily discounted now, and the blitzfeder has already been revised, so I wonder how much they will regret some of this new gear.
