I'd forgotten that. I think the rule comes from the IOC to limit athlete numbers. I think, and this may be wrong, that you can also use riders from the track events.

Definitely take Swift, as he can get into a break and win in a sprint against riders like Sagan, Freire or Pozzato.

Having him in a breakaway would make the likes of Spain, Italy and Belgium do a bit of chasing instead of leaving all that to GB.

not convinced he would beat Sagan to be honest, but as you said it would be worth getting someone in the break so they don't have to ride

I was making the assumption that he'd leave all the hard work to his breakaway companions.

Has Swift proved himself over 250km?

No, but if you were in a breakaway, would you want Swift sitting on your back wheel over the final 60km?

You'd pick Millar and Wiggins if you wanted a chance of a medal. Dowsett has shown a lot of promise but he's not going to come close against the likes of Cancellara and Martin.

Wiggins has said he wants to do the TT with the aim
Of being world champ to both test himself after going all out in a GT (ala 2012 tdf and Olympics) but also to make up for having to miss nationals this weekend. He might have a job on though.

So it comes down to milar and dowsett, dowsett himself targeting the national TT jersey and should he win perhaps that might have a bearing. All hypothetical though.

Cav has been training with millar, rob hayles and hunt all week I think with rod ellingworth and I am guessing millar is a dead cert for the road race team.

How do you think we will do in the women's road ace? Armisted, Cooke and pooley can make a decent group of contenders.
  • So long as they are both in shape you'd have to go with Millar and Wiggins for the TT, they may not be able to beat Cancellara or Martin at their best but they are both in with a good shout of a medal and if Cancellara or Martin are not at their best then they could even have a shot at gold.

    Millar got Silver last year!

    C'mon. Millar should ride.

Who needs Worlds TT experience anyway?

A TT is a TT wherever it is. I'm sure Dowsett has done pressure TTs before.

It's not like road racing where the Worlds is a totally different kind of race to any other in the year.
  • Agree, Dowsett has many years ahead to target the worlds. The two best, most proven riders should go and we know who they are.

Based on Monday's performance Froome could ride the TT!
