chain and rear mech on my spare bike, im selling it to a friend and want it spot on for him, ive put quite a few new parts on it lately, had to stick a new chain and rear mech as my other friend broke the hanger, mech and chain needed split to single speed to get us home  anyway he paid for hanger and new mech....however the rear mech is set up fine, cage is getting pulled forward and chain sucking up sometimes, is this the front rings that are needing replaced or will cassette need replacing too?

Which ring does it happen in.
None of the ones you need are listed in stock on yhose links. You may just need one. Which ring does it happen in.

Only you can identify what is happening. Try and watch where the chain is getting caught.0

no what im asking is will the 2 new rings on the CRC links i provided fit this chainset?0 -
They will bolt on, but are 8 speed rings so will be spaced differently. Out of stock anyway.
I'd buy the 9 speed version of the full crank:
http://www.woollyhatshop.com/Shop-By-Br ... _2954.html
And fit all three rings. You may have to file the chainring tabs slightly.
Then flog the crank arms on ebay.0 -

its an 8 speed bike....bummer they were in stock last night, bloody tipical, tbh im trying not to spend a fortune on the bike as im selling it, ive all ready spent alot on new bits for it, just turns out my friend breaking parts has cost me alot more money than he gave me to fix it, accidents happen tho0 -
watch out for the granny ring on that Alivio crankset as it WILL need modifying before fitting as the extended tabs and chain protector WILL com in contact with the External BB cups."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hi supafly,
Think I may have an old LX 9 speed knocking about that I could scavange the rings from. I'll look tonight.

makes no difference. as long as you have 8spd shifters."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

see may note above about the granny ring. you will have to get the file out or bend the lugs."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

even on these 9 speed ones?0 -
makes no difference. that granny is not designed to work with an HT2 BB.
it will work fine but will need some mods.
also see the "bump" between the holes lower left. that is for aligning with the cranks arm. same on the other ring."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
and so i would have to modify the bump too?0
-
no it is a guide for you to fit things correctly."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

happy days, if i cant get cheap HT II rings i will buy the deore ones and file the lugs down slightly.
Ok nearly there then i can stop picking your brains
This SLX 22t inner should be fine without filing?
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=38188
then out of these middle 32t which one would be the one to get? (if any)

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=38192
i dont mind rounding off this second one if it means it is a better fit than the first
anyone? im hoping to make the order tonight0
