TOUR OF THE PENNINES 17th Sept

Now in it's third year the Tour of the Pennines has quickly established it'self as an end of season classic. Organised by the Team Torelli Cycling Club. The event recreates the Professional Tour of the Pennines event which was run throughout the 70's 80' and 90's.

Starting at the Radclyffe Athletics Centre in Chadderton the route takes the riders around the the Saddleworth Moors dipping into the West Yorkshire before heading back to Lancashire. Stunning Scenery, Tough climbs including the much feared Scape Goat Hill and fast descents. Since the moving of the Tour of the Peak to an date in August it makes this event a great way to sign of the season North West.

This year we are hoping to have some ex pros who rode the professional event. Last year we had Jack Kershaw from Wightman/Gibsport/Knight, and Falcon Pro teams out supporting the event.

This year we have got the following features;

* Electronic Timing

* High Five Feeding Stations

* Support Vehicles

* GPS Dowloads

* Free Traditional Lancashire Pie & Peas Supper

* Free Hot Drinks after the event

* Support Vehicles

* Challenging Climbs

* Fast Descents

* Stunning Scenery

* Good Quality Roads

* Professional Photographer

* Preview Video Ride

* Event Video

* Changing Rooms

* Showers Car Parking

* Friendly Event Crew

* Well Signed Route, we even mark the roads

* Route Cards

Please be aware that as the advert says ' it does exactly what it says on the tin'. This is the Tour of the Pennines which means hills. Only riders that are confident that they are fit enough for this challenge should enter.

    Might have been interested in this had I not been on the Jodrell Bank Sportive earlier this year, which was also organised by Torelli. Looks like a good route but unfortunately the Jodrell Bank one took us along a fair few miles of tow path type routes that we'd have been better off on mountain bikes on!
  • Rode this event last year. Cracking route with some great climbs and fantastic views. Scape Goat Hill is an awesome climb very narrow and twisting.
    Looking forward to riding it again this year.

  • I have just entered this event does anyone know how steep Scape Goat Hill is.
  • I am not sure of the actual gradient but there is a preview video . I rode this event last year Scape Goat Hill is quite steep but not silly you can ride all the way. There's a hairpin bend about halfway up which is the steepest bit.

    Very! I climbed it last week and there are several "walls". Living round here I'm pretty used to climbing but on a 36*23 it was pretty testing. The other hills are not too bad: over the Isle of Skye (A635) it is a long steady climb: Chain road again is a bit of a slog; the A640 is easy enough unless (as usual) there is a head wind (I used to commute on this so know every inch) and the Ripponden section is again about steady climbing (I did this the other week also). There is plenty of climbing on this but the only really tough bit is Scapegoat.
  • Thanks very much for the advice I will get my granny gears on

    Looking forward to it and the weather looks to be a lot better next week

  • Are here people that did it?

    Tell me if I'm wrong but from what I could see there was only the short route that is 60km, isn't it?

    The sportive was quite good apart from the rain soaking so strong I could hardly see anything and I would be disappointed if I have missed the 100km route if it was there :)
  • There were 2 routes - 60 and 100km. They split at Denshaw crossroads - 60km went straight on after turning off the main road and the 100km involved turning right and heading through Delph.
