Sucks.

Got it for christmas.

The button that turns the pump on won't work.

Grr.

I'm sad enough to feel the need to share online.

Might be covered under warranty? Worth finding out before you are tempted to fix yourself.

    I'm sure it is.

I'd never attempt to fix it.

I'm just lacking coffee after dinner which makes me sad :(.

Or get yourself one of these. You probably won't reget it.
  • Buy a "small machine" to get you through.

Call No 10 Downing street. If Dave can mend a whole country then he should be able to fix your coffee machine without even blinking.

Rushed out to get one when the electricity went out one morning and now it's my only coffeemaker.

    Wot De Sisti said.......

Cheap enough and good enough to keep as an emergency back up even if you get the machine fixed/replaced.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

It's not espresso, but it's cheap and quick: tbh since I got one I can't be bothered to clean out the espresso pot very often.

I keep a spare machine for just such events.

With owning a Gaggia unfortunately this has come in useful to many times.

    An update:

Handed it back to the 'rents who bought it for me (since I couldn't find any warranty stuff).

They've exchanged my faulty machine with a brand new one (on proof of some debit card statement)

    Could be worse.

I now need to get it back from the 'rents.

Errr - is there any other way to make coffee?

Never really understood today's fascination with those coffee/capsule things.

    But that's just Yossie.

Sounds like a good excuse to get on the bike and take a ride down to Costa.

    Good coffee, but questionable ethics.

Glad to hear you got the machine fixed, Rick... how will you get it back from your parents'? Might be a nightmare on the tube!

When in term time, I get a LARGE, not masimo, LARGE Mocha, and it's huge and only £2, still expensive but cheap compared to most Costa.

Cheap does not necessarily mean ethical, Will. But I'm in danger of hijacking the thread!

They came over from the 'bridge for lunch on Sunday and took it away, I guess they'll have to come back for another lunch.

    It's not that big.

    It's one of these delonghi-eco310~1477937.jpg

So worst case I could carry it on the tube.

Manageable. Just make sure you don't put it in a backpack and run between platforms.

Problem I have with Costa is not the coffee, but the place.

Who wants to sit in Costa? Or any of the chains for that matter?

And before anyone recommends a take out - I can't tell you how awful drinking out of a paper cup is to me.

As an aside, any techniques to good foam (especially with that model?)

    My foam is always questionable.

Either the bubbles are too big, or only about 10% is foamed properly, followed by 90% of hot, unfoamed milk.

The coffee source has improved just lately - they're using Fairtrade products - but the company as a whole (owned by Whitbread) is questionable with its cheap rate hotels etc and no doubt low wages.

But you're right; these "restaurants" are depressing and full of folk with ipads.

There's the 'Super Record' version ('Brikka'):

    http://www.gallacoffee.co.uk/acatalog/B ... e-top.html

Runs at higher pressure with a weighted valve. Works really well (used it this morning), but double the price.

Of course if price is no object and you need a machine to match the pink scarf:

Have you tried skimmed milk? I get the result you describe in my gaggia if I use anything else except skimmed.

And +1 for the Bialetti stove top. Start every day with this one.

Nooo! What is that sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet? "Coffee" coloured liquid for peasants.

Begone Matt - drinking that stuff you no longer have the right to use the C59.

    Lavazza or Segafreddo. End of.

For risk of entering into another argument, you'll shop around for the cheapest food that you can get but still spend £2 on slop from Costascum?

Skimmed milk? Blasphemy! (no I haven't. I can't bring myself to buy white water).

I like the look of that handpumped expresso machine on the gallacoffee webpage.

Kinda OT but are these machines capable of Latte art, I know it's pretentious but would love to use mine for this but seem to be incapable of it, might just be me. Another thing, sources of good beans online, any views?

    It has to be illy.
Trouble is it works out no cheaper to buy the giant cans on the net than the small cans in tesco.
