... and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've ridden in groups on sportives before but they aren't generally geared to keeping together as a group, and I'd heard a lot of negatives about club rides, not being too sure of how well I'd keep up...
but the reality was very different... firstly the pace was well within my capability - 2hr50hr ride at 15.3mph average - and secondly it was a great bunch who were genuinely pleased to see a newcomer and introduce them to club riding...
so thank you, Kenton RC, will be back next Sunday for another ride.. should have done it a long time ago...
It turned out that I was one of the stronger riders in the bunch - no doubt to the 150miles/week commuting - and we rode some roads I know well but maintained at least 3mph+ more as a group than I know I've been able to ride solo on those roads... and I felt we could have gone even quicker - the average speed didn't reflect the potential of the group if we'd wanted to go quicker, but we did do a fair amount of pootling and chatting too...

Website here, its a bit out of date but I am told its about to be revamped. From what I can gather most of the rides are out to the north and west of London, occassionally heading out more easterly, e.g. Cheshunt/Ware. They start Sundays, 9am from Kenton Library (jct Christchurch Rd and Kenton Lane) One member rode in from Hemel Hempstead!
Yesterdays ride (including the short hop from my house to Kenton library and back)

Glad to see Clubs encouraging new members.
We have just set up a Cycle Club in the GLasgow Area. Glasgow Green Cycle Club.
http://www.facebook.com/groups/263633293648844/
We get out twice a week. Wednesday for a faster paced 25 miler then Sunday is a longer ride at the pace of the slowest member. A great day out and a cracking coffee/cake stop half way round.
If anyone is looking to get out with a good bunch of folk and pick up tips along the way then have a look at our site or drop us an email @ info@glasgowgreencycleclub.co.uk . We are "genuinely" looking for all kinds of abilities to make the club into a huge success.0 -
I've just joined the new Salisbury Club but I've yet to go on a ride...mainly 'cos I didn't have a bike.
But I have now...Cannondale Supersix 105, last one in the sale at Evans so a nice bit off - Rob0
