Im 5 ft 9 inches , my cycling jerseys are for a 44 inch chest and I have a 36 inch waist. The sizing chart for the bib shorts im looking at shows :-

Chest 42-44 / Waist 34-36

and

Chest 44-46 / Waist 36-38

the 2nd pair are obviously going to be sized for somebody taller than me and the waist size for the 1st concerns me as being a tad snug

given my dimensions, should i look at pair 1 or pair 2 ?

I'd try pair 1 - waist size within a couple of inches shoudn't be an issue with bib shorts, but you don't want your shorts over your knees which might be an issue even with pair 1.

i was thinking in terms of bibs, better tighter than looser, would this be correct ?

you could always lose some weight
  • You'll probably need the larger size
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

What brand and what size are they? I know a lot of guides say waist doesn't matter with bibs, it's just about your height but through experience I'd definitely say waist matters as some bibs are cut more generously than others. For a 36" waist you'll likely be looking at XL in most brands and possibly XXL in some Italian brands.

Best snug. But I have a couple that are a bit loose and a couple that are a little on the tight side and I don't feel any difference when I get on the bike - the loose ones seem to get tight enough once you're stretched out on the bike but the tighter ones aren't uncomfortable. In your case I'd say the straps will most likely come up loose, but the cut does vary a lot frtom brand to brand. As I said, the bigger shorts will likely have longer legs which might also be an issue.

    I'm 6'2" and 33-34 in waist

Gore Bikewear size XL bibshorts are a good fit. Endura size L are a good fit

Endura size M were too tight around the thighs and the straps were on the short side

Length is the most important factor - lycra will stretch a lot horizontally but if they are short from the shoulders to the crotch then that can be uncomfortable.

Some brands have longer legs than others too so sometimes it takes bit of trial and error.

Like others I have said I have everything from M to XL in different brands and they all fit me.

I would probably go for the smaller size though in the first instance.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Same here there is no consistency in sizing I wear everything from L to XXL depending on the source.
