Im looking for a shimano one, i used to have a LX on it but my friend mangled it, so now my spare bike has no rear mech, im looking for a half decent one at an affordable price, not bothered about it being new, im only asking here as im struggling to fine a decent one, 2 heads are better than one and all that,

cheers

i thought that! the old LX was A 9, i got a 9spd deore from CRC, done the usual but it wont dial in, i am using a SRAM chain though, would this cause any difference than using a shimano chain with shimano mechs?

the gears find it hard to move up on the low gears and wont go into 1st, first 4 are great then it starts to arse about, ive done the usual cable tensioning but still no joy, H limit screw is set fine and dandy, just cant seem to get this one tuned in at all, the lx was a dodle

twas a rookie error SS, both limit screws wound right in as its new, i adjusted the H tried to shift up to adjust the L but couldnt get into first..... backed the L screw out a touch, re indexed the gears and wallah, jobs a good un, all gears present and correct...........but going uphill the cage is catching and jumping forward, dont know whats causing it, time to re do it agin and retest it

New chains using a joining pin are more prone to stiff links than old chains. Are the teeth straight on the cassette?
  • yeah they look ok, probbably a bit worn like the rings, its a fast link so no stifness there

Cant you try different cranks to see if it is chain suck in granny and middle? If so go for deore in the same sizes
