hey everyone

i havent been riding long but over the last month i have been looking at joining a local bike club. when i went to look at the 3 nearest ones i noticed that they all have horrible kits (imo).

i was just wondering if this is the same for all amateur clubs?

i know people will say it doesnt make a difference what the kit is like, but when i ride in my saxo bank kit i always feel more confident for some reason.

Yepp, I agree (in general). I am a sucker for some of the pro kits (Cervelo TT, Trek Leopard, HTC, etc.). Even some of the retro pro ones are lovely lovely (Peugeot, Cote D`Or/DAF, etc.). Most club kits look like, well, club kits.

I love AG2R. Seriously, the genius of putting brown on a bike kit!

I think I'd rather advertise my club than some commercial product, but this all a matter of taste and there is no right answer. Except wearing two or more items of different trade team clothing at once is absolutely wrong in all moral and ethical systems.
  • Classic 60s and 70s pro team kits were the bomb - they still are - but then it all went a bit sh1t. I do like the Garmin Cervelo kit though.

As for the original poster's question, I've yet to see a club kit that's been designed by anyone with a grasp of a) design b) style. There are some real shockers out there!

Our team kit is made by Shutt, and it's very nice looking!

Our club kit is great quality (Giordana). It looks OK but I'm at that age where I prefer black shorts and we have red and white. Our previous kit was nice and we had the best club kit around when I first started out. There are some very nice club kits out there but also some horrible ones (usually where clubs refuse to break from tradition).

Up here (west of Scotland) half of the population would either run you over or spit at you if you wore that.

I agree that most club gear is minging. I'm a designer so have very sensitive eyes , I would like to volunteer to redesign my locals club kit before I join.

I reckon a lot of club kits are better than some of the team kits. My club, VC Norwich, has a great kit both in looks and quality(made by Castelli)

    That's just your opinion, mate...

I much prefer the GYCC (made by Endura). Nicer and faster  :lol::lol:

Might have a go at those, once the TT's start to quiet down. I've got 5 x 10's this time home!

I like my Reading CC kit - I think it looks pretty pro compared to some -
    jersey_web.jpg

And the latest iteration of the Brunswick CC kit over here also looks great -

(didn't like the previous version myself - bit too much purple for my liking!)
