Last mile of a 35 mile blast this afternoon, a descent I know really well and had been looking forward to. But a car (OK a van that had been set up as an autosleeper) got in front of me and dawdled down the hill at 30 or so. I hesitated, followed him round a bend hoping he might see me and speed up a bit. He didn't so I got out of the saddle and sprinted past him.
Bit scary - out of his slipstream on a pretty short straight it took me longer that I'd have liked to get past, but into the next series of bends I was gone.
And he had to follow me at a grinding pace back up the hill on the other side to my house.
Do I win?

Only if your aim was to hassle a poor, innocent motorist. There he was, bimbling along, being careful, and a hooligan on a push-bike comes thrashing passed him and holds him up. all the way up the next hill.
Personally performed a 40mph pass as the road opened up to dual carriage way. Just tucked down as aero as I could and began to gain on the car in front. I was just about in place to overtake that one as well, but my right turn was coming up, and the road was just about to tilt skywards. To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.0 -
I overtook 2 vehicle one being a learner at 35-40mph down lythe bank near sandsend whitby.Once one is used to it the descent can be done at 55mph,faster than any car or motorbike can make the bends. Its lovely to see the faces

If you'd overtaken him going up the hill then you would have won.
Otherwise no.0 -
I managed 2 cars and a bus going down the Horseshoe Pass once. Luckily I caught the bus just at a straight bit and the driver was showing the tourists the views. More seemed to be looking at some nutter doing 50mph in his protective lycra though.
had a good laugh with 2 cops a couple of weeks back in my town. Saw them with the speed gun at the side of the road so sprinted down the 2% slope. They shouted that i only managed 38mph and challenged me (with a laugh) to try and break the 40mph limit. I was sooooo tempted to have another go0 -
Claiming credit for overtaking cars down steep hills... next we will be claiming overtakes in city or traffic or even Richmond park with all the deer watchers...0
