Having settled on my FS and 100mm forked HT, and not giving in to any other type - be it singlespeed, rigid, 29er, 69er, extreme HT, etc etc - I have just had to have a different type of bike taken off me by its rightfull owner.
After 5 years of halfords esque BMX's, we finally bought the young un a Wethepeople BMX. I've not ridden one since I was 15 (I'm 40 next month btw) yet just took hers out for a test as I've donated my squeak freee XTR V pads to the back.
After 10 yards I'd established it was squeak free, but after 20 minutes I'd not got off the thing. Whizzing around stood up and jumping up and down curbs, I must have looked like a complete donkey, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. I got off sweating, panting and calves throbbing.
Might just have to get myself one of these new small wheeled bikes

Exactly this, my apologies though I thought it was sufficiently well known not to need further comment.0 -
I thought it would be something like that, but wasn't entirely sure.
Either way, yes I may well get myself a new toy if finances allow.
The difference between her £200 Halfords GT BMX and this one is immense. Sure the GT will no doubt be more than good enough for most things, but it is damn hard to pedal and move around compared to the much lighter and better geared people doofer.
Not that I should be suprised coming from 20 years worth of mtb's0 -
BMX's are a strange one, on one hand a £300 bmx now is rubbish compared to one 4 years back, however a £650 one now like mine is miles better than one from 4 years back. About £400 for something worth buying in my books now0

Yes I did a fair bit of research before buying her new one.
At first she liked and wanted a Haro 4.0 or something, but it is very heavy and doesn't seem to be well liked (despite Haro being a name I remember many years ago)
In the end the wtp Versus was on offer at £340 down from £420 and it seemed to be a good buy, with full chrome frame, 24lb weight and the correct gearing and bits etc.
As you say, £300 gets you a named bike but with a frame and / or components that are at best mediocre.
Silly money really, but I suppose they do take a beating.0 -
Very sensible thing to do, my 7 stone little brother had a £180 one last year and ripped the toptube clean off !0

i think with a 36 float and a reverb that could be a perfect DH enduro bike, or for razzing round a bike park, shame i have neither the skills nor bravery to do either0 -
