I'm off to the Belgium in a few weeks for work. While i'm there i'd like to see a few of the famous places if I can.

I've found the Muur de Huy on the map but would also like to see a few other famous climbs if possible. I'm staying near Liege so I think I might also be able to see La Redoute.

Working all day until 6 and not got a bike with me so it looks like i'll have to visit everything in the car rather than on my bike.

    Thik I could have phrased the message a bit better. I meant I only know where the Muur is in Belguim, does anyone know any other famous places there and can point me in the right direction of anything else worth seeing

    Apart from the Redoute and Mur de Huy you've got the Cote de Stockeu (a small road going South out of Stavelot (South of Spa) to Somagne) with statue of Merckx.

    Liege is also very close to Amstel Gold Race territory in the Netherlands East of Maastricht with some famous hills:
    Cauberg (next year's world champs) - road from Valkenburg South-West to Vilt;
    Keuteberg (small narrow road South of Schin op Geul);
    Gulpenberg (tiny road West from Partij to Gulpen over hill south of Gulpen)

    Have a look on the RVV website, it has quite a detailed map of the Ronde route, and also theres some signposted Tourist routes taking in several muurs. Im there in 2 weeks, can't wait!

    Shame Freddy Maertens is off work ill at the moment, we wanted a guided tour :(

    Have a look at http://www.hardfietsen.nl/tableaux/inde ... 6&landid=2

    Then choose climbs from the list in red below. Other countries are shown on the list on the left of the page. When you select a climb you can then choose "karte" to see it on a map.

    I might see you out on the roads!

    Liege is a bit of a dump and a bit dodgy, by the way.

    :wink:

    By the sounds of it your time would be better spent getting acquainted with belgian ale in a cellar bar...

    Thanks for the link pottssteve. Should be able to find a few places to visit now. Just a shame i'll have to look at them in my car rather than the bike.

    I've heard about Liege already so don't plan on spending much time there

    Ardennes is great for cycling, quiet roads and great scenery. If you can't ride the climbs then also take in some of the WW2 sites - my great uncle Charlie spent the winter of 1944 compliments of the 101st Airborne in Bastogne and I find the tanks poignant every time I've ridden past riding Tilff-Bastogne-Tilff.
    The RvV Museum in Oudenaarde is worth a visit if driving down as it's a couple of hours from Liege.
    Find yourself a traditional cafe restaurant serving local food i.e. Venison or boar stew washed down with plenty of Gueze beer.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
