i mean IH are a yoyo brand, they are definitley mining to new depths at the mo. if they dig any deeper theyll hit the earths core! I remember when saracen were cool the first time around, before the bargain basement bad times, thankully they got there a*se in gear. unlike Raleigh...

Besides, everyone knows that fixies are the coolest bikes in the world because, well, you just wouldnt understand....

Iron Horse making a comeback ? Rocking horses perhaps have you seen the "bikes" getting that label now, sad times !

Indeed, some Taiwanese company has turned the mighty Iron Horse brand into a range of cheaply equipped BSOs. I was quite shocked at just how poor the new range is.

I'd rather like a freestyle fixie in my shed, I really would ! Perfect for popping up the pub or gym then doing a few barspins on the way back....how cool is that !

    Whatever happened to Middleburn?

I know that you can still buy their rings, but in the 90's their cranks were the muts...

    You or me?

Wasn't having a dig, I'm neither fast or stylish, most of the time I'm just happy to stay on two wheels. Was just playing with the words...

No offence - I was joking, don't do smilies so it's hard to tell.
My riding mates call me a style icon as I have a collection of weird colour retro jerseys and lycra shorts (although I normally wear baggies over them).
I think they may be being a bit sarcastic on the style bit.

They put up with me as I am slow and rubbish, so they look good and feel superior.

So, we've established that Kona are uncool, GT are uncool and I'll go ahead and assume specialized are uncool, which makes me ...... Ahh crap.

If only it was 1993 again, I'd be too cool for school.

Specialized are the most common brand I see. Many are ridden by real mountain bikers, whereas some seem to be owned by "boutique bikers" who don all things "Spesh". They obviously walked into a Specialized shop and bought "everything" they could ever need for fair weather riding under one roof.
    That is "uncool"
  • Uncool = ££££££££ savings

I got my Cadabra on sale brand new for £1200. My mates were amazed at the amount of bike I got the the money.

Main thing is that I look at it and think "yeah i like it" For me it's an awesome bike.

Ok so there are better, lighter equipped bikes out there, but they would coast me hundreds is not thousands more. Would they improve my riding? probably not!

Plus you don't see many of them up on the trails. however you see umpteen Spech's and Oranges 5's. I like the fact I'm riding something different.

  • in 1988 I saw a glossy ad on the back of Bicycle magazine of a Cindercone. The bike was far out. The splatter paintjob, ubrake , project two forks and above all sloping top tube. People forget how Kona created the modern mountainbike.

I bought on. The first year Kona were in the UK. I still have it with all the original kit. Only brake blocks have been changed. It's been raced an now the wife uses it.

I bought an Orange Aluminium O in 90 and still have that with original kit. Again raced extensively. Two years ago decided to get new bike so got Rocky Mountain Vertex. First suspenion of any kind. Rear suspension is for poofs.

Doe I still love my Kona. I adore it. Superb and are both of my other mtbs.

I looked at Kona when lookibg for new bike but settled on Vertex as the old school geometry suited me. I'd buy another Kona though without hesitation. The 88 bikes were very important in mtb development.
  • Kona bikes are very good... Just their RRP is ridiculous; only worth buying them in the sales when they are massively discounted!

Correct. I bought a Kona Hardtail for a heavily discounted £450. Upgraded it with a few bits I had in the garage from my other bikes and its a cracking bit of kit for my needs. Am I cool? Probably not. Do I care?... definately not.. :D

Cool is just fashion. It passes and changes....one minute your cool...then uncool....wait a few more years then your all "retro cool".......... its all bollocks really
it looks a bit steep to me.....

I started with a Kona, heavily discounted, and bought on C2W, and I loved it. Doesn't make it cool. Although I believe if they were sold as boutique frames, with better graphics, they would be considered cool.
