Purchased a Genesis Day One at Xmas in the sales with the intention of commuting to work. Eight months on and the road bug has bitten and my Orange 5 isn't getting much use as even at the weekend the Genesis is the bike I'm riding. Ridden 50 miles today on the Genesis and really am thinking about buying a geared road bike..................but will it make that much difference to enjoyment and distance that I ride. Thanks for any replies.

Yes. You'll be better prepared for other types of terrain. More gears allow you to get up hills more easily, go down them faster, battle headwinds and make the most of tailwinds (without spinning your legs into oblivion :-) )0
