Shimano custom fit

Im in the process of changing my shoes for something more expensive and stiffer. Have found a pair of shimanos on the internet at a good price, the down side being the shop isnt close so I would be missing out on the custom shoe fit....... Is this something that makes a big difference? I can imagine that a more local shop that offers this service, (still 30 miles away!) wouldn't be too happy fitting shoes bought elsewhere!

How far away do you have to go? Just go if you think it's worth it. I had to travel 100 miles on the train to get the bike I wanted but I'm glad I did as I would have had to settle for something other than what I really wanted. Don't be so lazy ;-) (I'll excuse you if you live in the north of Scotland and have to go to Cornwall for the shoe fitting).

Ha, thats the problem it is the other end of the country. The petrol costs would be prohibitive.
I've noticed many 'high-end' shoes are heat moldable, and yet sold via many of the online retailers. Seems a strange idea to buy expensive shoes and not utilise all features?!

I've got a pair of R220 which are a nice shoe but they did rub my ankle bone a bit (they are cut a bit high on the sides for me). They were OK but after having the heat moulding thye were perfect. Basically you can ride them without the heat moulding but if you've got odd shaped feet (like mine!) you'll be better off after the moulding.

If you want the best shoe (for you), the best fitting and the best service, hunting around on the internet for bargain prices is the wrong way to go about it.

Unfortunately you've got to pay for those 'extras', and only you can be the judge of whether you think it's worth it.

Agreed.... I can definitely see that view. The price difference is huge though, around £150. I was just trying to ascertain whether the 'custom fit' was just that, or whether it was a gimmick to warrant the higher prices.

I have a pair of these. Definitely worth paying extra to get the heat moulding.

Ok thanks for the opinions, guess I ought to get myself down to get myself fitted then!

Incidentally being new to the cycling world (but very very keen) I am amazed at the lack of shops that sale a decent range of cycle clothing. With the sizes differing so vastly, and the fit needing to be fairly exact I find it strange having to take pot luck ordering off the internet....... never before have I returned so much!!
