Getting that up-grade itch

Hi guys starting to get the old up-grade itch,
just wondering is it worth going from sora to tiagra or should I just go for 105 stuff
The bike has a mixture of sora and tiagra gear at the moment, reliability is more important
than anything else, I cycle for fun but will be doing some audax later

105 (5600) is only £30 more expensive from merlin cycles (they tend to be the best place for complete groupsets) so for the sake of that much I'd say 105 all the way. It's 10 speed as opposed to 9 speed, bit lighter, bit better build quality...
The new version of 105 (5700) is a bit more expensive but unless you're really fussed about having under-tape cables then I doubt it's worth the extra over 5600.0 -
5600 also had issues with failing STI units.
I'd go straight for the 5700 and stay clear of the 5600.0 -
Hi Mark,
I think that this is a budget dependant question.
If money no object, defo go for 105 (5700), it has a lot of 'trickle down' ultegra ideas on it. 10 speed, lovely colour (looks are everything!) and under bar tape cabling giving a very tidy and pro looking cockpit.
If money is a bit of an issue then 105 (5600) is very cheap (especilly from Merlin).
If money is tight then second hand Tiagra shifters and chainset only.
Personally I'd not go from Sora to Tiagra until next year when Tiagra goes 10 speed and even then I think I'd be tempted to save up a bit more and get 105.

Depending on budget, you could always consider SRAM Apex too

What bike do you have? New shifters aren't going to make you go any quicker and quite frankly Sora to Tiagra is a marginal upgrade at best.
Have you already upgraded the wheels and/or tyres? I'd be looking to do this first, or probably saving my money for the next dream bikeSpecialized Venge S Works
Cannondale Synapse
Enigma Etape
Genesis Flyer Single Speed
