Hi all,

Going to make the plunge and start cycling to work after 16 years of not touching one. :?

Could someone help me, I am trying to find a stockists near Lincoln for the Scott Urban Sub 10.
Not having any luck.

It's this one here >> http://www.scott-sports.com/gb_en/produ ... 665/sub_10

TBO I have no clue what I need, its only a 7 mile trip and that one seems to stand out to me.

Thanks for any help.

  • The Sub 10 Urban shown on their website isn't the same as the 2011 model shown here for example http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/scott_sub_10_.html

Seems the 2011 model has dropped the rear mech/cassette for an Alfine hub gear.

£999 seems quite expensive for a relatively heavy (11kg) mid-range bike

    Thanks,

What would you suggest then? I have £1000 budget.

    Cheers.
  • I love this bike, I don't own it but have tried it and really want it.

I have a Genesis Vapour and love it, I have a Trek 1.9 to go with it but for commuting, winter rides and touring it's my go to bike.

What size would I be looking at. S,M,L?

    I am 178cm tall. Cheers.
  • You're about 6cm taller than me and I ride a 54cm, you may want to try the 56 or the 58cm.

I'm generally between a 54 and 56 in most bikes and always go for the smaller size as I prefer the way it makes the bike feel.

It's a fair price for an Alfine equipped commuting bike.

If the OP is serious about commuting and intends to stick with it year-round, then a hub-geared bike is recommended.

Personally, I'd consider the On One Pompetamine or the Genesis Day On Alfine. Both back up as good weekend bikes.

While I definitely agree with Moodyman's view that hub gear bikes are good for commuting, I'm still not convinced I'd recommend one. While there are definite advantages I'm still not convinced the cost, weight and complexity is worth it.

I'm lucky enough to have several different bikes, so having a dedicated year-round commuter makes sense to me. But if I was only ever going to have one bike, I'd be looking more towards a cross/fast tourer bike.

Thanks for the info, I am leaning more now towards the Boardman range at Halfords.

Is the jump up from the team and pro worth the money?
  • I'd go for the comp purely because I don't like sora and it's a good sensible bike.
