So, here it is:
Different pedals are definitely on the cards, and maybe some XTR shifters would be nice, we'll see.

Not just that, XO brakes??? Bloody 'ell :P
Very nice though...0 -
I do swap the wheels over and take it off road as well. The forks may still be overkill, but they were too cheap to resist.0

Ooh, do tell me... how much for and where?
I'm trying to build myself something similair for commuting :P ... and how much did you get the brakes for?0 -

Thanks mate, will be checking them out... the brakes in particular0

question i also using a rockhopper to commute on and got a question about the wheels
Am i right in saying i need to buy new wheels for road then have different wheels for MTB??
and if so what setup you running and how does it fair, as so far i been biking down towpaths and roads and the tyre tread is really starting to go down, though the side tread is ok thank god.London2Brighton Challange 100k!

No, you don't need two sets of wheels for road and off-road.
There are very good dual use tyres available. In fact that is exactly what I had fitted before I bought the new wheels.
However, now that I have two sets of wheels, it's possible to have dedicated tyres fitted to each set, and to swap over for the different disciplines.
This way, I can have the tyre I want, and not a compromise.
Hope that makes sense?0 -
know any good dual tyres that would be good on tow paths+road?London2Brighton Challange 100k!

I've been using Halo Twin Rails. Cheap, fast and puncture protection. Not that heavy either.
There are loads of others. Have a look on Wiggle or CRC.
To be honest, if you're only riding towpaths, then even slick full road tyres would work. I'm running Schwalbe Marathon Supremes now, and they work fine on bridleway type surfaces.0 -
Some similar ideas as my MTB commuter; you cannot beat a MTB for commuting !

A suggestion if you like, try Kona Project 2 forks, they are brilliant. I went for Hope V2 brakes for ease of bleeding, seen my other thread !
BTW, good bike, like a lot

flats and suspension forks on a commuter?
I swapped out my suspension forks for some project 2s about a year ago and have never looked back.
nice looking bike though, mine's a complete ratbike but it does the trick.Whether you're a king or a little street sweeper, sooner or later you'll dance with the reaper.
