Crappy inner tubes on me new bike

My Giant came with some Ching Sheng inner tubes that failed to hold more than 30 PSI from day 1. After a couple of months both have now failed at the base of the valve. One went when the LBS was servicing it and they replaced it with a Specialized tube FOC. The other one went at work today and I didn't have a spare so I had to get a lift home.

Why fit such crummy tubes on an otherwise decent bike?

On the bright side I took the opportunity to swap the slicks over for some Knobbly Maxxis 2.1" tyres ready for my Wales trip.

Mine came with tubes from the same manufacturer, I like them, they're the lightest tubes I've got!

  • I think OEM tubes do tend to be poor.

My wife's new bike had one tube go on first day.

I strongly suspect that it was the shop pinching the tube as they did say how stiff they had found getting the Marathon plus on to the rim.
