Got to watch the sun rise through a the thick trunks of a forest, the alps light up on the horizon, a deer and her baby in a standoff with a fox, shagging goats, mist rising off a mountain lake and off the fast flowing river in the bottom of the valley.

The sheep running to line the fence on the track I was climbing, ringing their bells like the crowds at the tour de France cheering me on, made me laugh.

The only thing that slightly spoilt it - it was damn cold at 6am even with leggings over my shorts and a shell on.

    You are indeed very lucky.

My commute consisted of a strong head win all the way in, on a busy A road, clogged with traffic and smog.

I always think that i am riding the lanes of southern france though...

I did a trial of what will likely be my commute when we buy a house this year, and I'm just thinking about moving closer to work instead cos I found it so hard. Only about 450ft of climbing in ten miles but bear in mind I weigh near 17stone.i noticed a bald spot on the tyre and that the tube was starting to bulge out. Luckily I was about 500 yards from a Halfords, so took the opportunity to upgrade my rear tyre to a Conti Ultrasport - limited choice and it was the same price as the Bikehut one. They did let me change it inside the store though as it had been raining on and off all day. Hopefully as I start racking up some miles it'll get easier. Or I'll just get faster and it never easier.

Here you go, stopped off a couple of times on this mornings ride to catch a couple of shots. Saw the deer and her young again but too far away to get on camera :(

Tends to be by car ;) Yes covered in snow, and only the main roads are plowed - even with that you occasionally need snow chains on the car.

Nice sunny morning, westerly breeze, flying along. Got to work in good time, then managed to get two tickets for Hearts Spurs tomorrow night, If Carlsberg did mornings.......

Only slight fly in the ointment was the ped's who seem to not see bicycles and just cross the road anyway like a bunch of lemmings. Then if you complain you get a mouthfull, very bizarre.
