headset bearing damage?

hi can anybody tell me how i would know if i damaged my headset bearings by overtightening the top bolt on my stem? when i was lowering my stem height i overtightened the headset so that the bars were stiff to turn would this damage the bearings?

    can you adjust so it feels fine?

    yes it adjusted ok and feels fine at the moment

    Then you've almost certainly caused no permanent damage.

    If tou crushed them or damaged them you get a rough feeling when turning your bars if you.don't then your ok and haven't damaged them
