Has anybody done this before? Are the climbs a nightmare?

Did it 2 years ago (I think). Weather was foul for most of the day. It's quite a tough ride. Cat & Fiddle is easy enough but a long drag. Winnat's Pass was very tough and the weather & wind did not help on the day. Just to cap it all, as we swept down on the main road towards Chapel at the finish, the organisers, in their wisdom decided to route the riders up over a steep, narrow country lane (bloody sadistic).

Downhills were not much fun due to wet conditions. Due to the conditions, I decided on the day to do the 60 mile route rather than the 100.

Apart from all of that, I enjoyed it
  • Depending on your experience and fitness - for me Winnats Pass is as tough as any climb I have done, as per the earlier poster The Cat and Fiddle isn't bad at all, it's just long but not steep.
  • Cheers guys. I am booked in for this Sunday. You have not put off!
  • Doh! I mean put ME off!
  • Guys, I had to get off and walk part the way up Winnats Pass, about the time Garmin clicked on to 22 percent. Loved Cat and Fiddle, both up and down.
Nochekmate - We also went up THE 'steep narrow country lane,' which I thought was some kind of sick joke, especially after taking a 12 mile detour due signage issues. But as I live and cycle in the fens, what a great event/challenge.
